In today's competitive and ever-changing business world, it's vital for businesses to focus on continuous improvement to survive and thrive. Kobetsu Kaizen is a Japanese term meaning "focused continuous improvement." This approach aims to increase overall efficiency and productivity through small, incremental improvements, focusing on a specific team or workstation.
Kobetsu Kaizen is a Japanese term meaning "individual improvement." It's an approach that focuses on continuous improvements within each employee's workstation and area of responsibility. By encouraging teamwork and valuing each employee's ideas and experience, this approach aims to increase overall company efficiency and productivity.
This approach, which stands for "focused continuous improvement," aims to increase overall efficiency and productivity through small, incremental improvements focused on a specific team or workstation. This approach has several benefits:
Increased Productivity: This approach optimizes production and workflows by helping teams identify and eliminate bottlenecks and sources of waste, enabling more production with fewer resources.
Increased Productivity: Improving processes and reducing waste leads to faster production times and higher production capacity, allowing businesses to produce more products or services and generate more revenue.
Improved Quality: By identifying and eliminating the source of errors and defects, significant improvements are made in product and service quality. This increases customer satisfaction and expands business market share.
Increased Motivation: By encouraging team members to share their ideas and suggestions, it creates a greater sense of participation and ownership of the work. This, in turn, increases employee motivation and job satisfaction.
Cost Reduction: Optimizing production and workflows helps reduce overall operating costs. This increases business profitability and enhances competitiveness.
In addition, this approach:
This approach is a highly beneficial continuous improvement method for businesses of all sizes and sectors. When implemented correctly, Kobetsu Kaizen provides businesses with significant advantages in terms of efficiency, productivity, quality, costs, and motivation.
This approach, which stands for "focused continuous improvement," aims to increase overall efficiency and productivity through small, incremental improvements focused on a specific team or workstation. This approach has 10 key phases:
1-Topic Selection: The reason for choosing the Kaizen topic is demonstrated, if necessary, with statistical data to illustrate why we chose this problem. The topic that yields the most returns in the dimensions of Q: Quality, C: Cost, and D: Delivery (i.e., Quality, Cost, and Time) is selected from among the existing problems.
2. Team Building: A team is formed consisting of team members responsible for the targeted area and other relevant individuals. The team should include individuals from different disciplines and with different perspectives.
3- Goal Setting: The focus of the improvement effort and the targeted results are clearly defined. Goals should be set in accordance with SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) principles.
4-Current Situation Analysis: After defining the problem, a clear definition and the current situation are revealed using the 5W1H. (What is the problem, how does it occur, what is not a problem) Techniques such as loss analysis, special cases and Pareto, histogram, control diagram, process flow diagram, monitoring diagrams, brainstorming, cause-and-effect diagram, etc. are utilized.
5- Time Management and Plan Creation: The team's work plan is spread over weeks and days. The number of weeks the Kaizen effort will last and the timeframes within which the ten steps will be completed are determined.
6-Root Cause Analysis: Root causes and areas for improvement are identified by using the appropriate problem-solving technique for our problem (Why Cause Analysis, Fishbone, Process Analysis, ECRS Analysis, Comparison Matrix, etc.).
7-Determine and Select Countermeasures (Solutions): This is the step where countermeasures are defined against the potential root causes identified in the Root Cause Analysis. The three highest-scoring countermeasures are ranked and moved on to the next step.
8-Application: This is the step in which the measures selected in the previous step of our problem are applied sequentially.
9- Monitoring and Verifying the Results: We question whether we have achieved the goal we set in Step 3 and move on to the next step as soon as it is confirmed that the goal has been achieved.
10-Standardization and Dissemination: The standardization methods we have implemented to prevent regression (creation of instructions, technical drawing, maintenance plan revision, etc.) are included.
Some important recommendations for the successful implementation of this approach are:
