PPAP Training

PPAP is a process implemented to ensure customer approval of a new product or manufacturing process. What is PPAP?

PPAP stands for "Production Part Approval Process." The PPAP file describes every step and phase of the production process in detail and is approved by the customer representative. The customer also uses PPAP as a control mechanism, so it's important to contact the customer and obtain confirmation of any changes to the process. Examples of such changes include:

  • Using a different material
  • A new or revised mold
  • A new supplier or raw material
  • Restarting the production process after a long break

Phases of PPAP

PPAP consists of four main phases:

  • FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis): It is the process of analyzing the possibilities and effects of design and manufacturing errors.
  • PCS (Process Capability Study): It is the process of measuring the capability of the production process, that is, its ability to meet the desired quality specifications.
  • Document Preparation: It is the process of preparing all documents required within the scope of PPAP.
  • Customer Approval: It is the process of approving the prepared documents by the customer.
